Join Us in Supporting Our Virtual Food Pantry
Since 2023, the Sodexo Oncology dietitians at the Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute (LVTCI) have held an annual food drive during National Nutrition Month to collect food for patients who were identified as food insecure.
At the beginning of the month, food collection boxes are distributed to all LVTCI locations, including the Cedar Crest, Muhlenberg, Hecktown Oaks, Carbon, Hazleton, Schuylkill, and Pocono campuses. A variety of nonperishable dried and canned foods as well as various snack items were collected throughout the month then sorted by the dietitians and assembled into bags to be delivered to each site.
Thanks to the generosity of individuals who donated, the dietitians were able to collect a total of 690 pounds of food in 2023 and 1067 pounds of food in 2024. However, due to a growing number of patients experiencing food insecurities, there has been an increased demand for food drive supplies throughout the year and especially during the holiday seasons.
As a result, we are launching a virtual food pantry that will be accepting monetary donations year-round. With these donations, the dietitians will be able to regularly purchase and assemble food bags to donate to patients on an ongoing basis. Further providing relief and assistance for patients that experience financial or social strains.
Please consider donating so we can continue to help our patients nourish themselves throughout their cancer treatments. Every dollar helps a patient in need and is greatly appreciated.
